Coin Album & Slipcase OPTIMA Classic Design, Red

The OPTIMA Classic is a coin album and slipcase bound in red leatherette, made to hold a working collection without fuss. Inside are ten OPTIMA sheets in mixed formats — wide pockets for the larger crowns, smaller ones for the modest coins that matter anyway, and a pair of fly-leaves so one page never presses against the next. The pockets slide in their own drawer window, cut from plasticiser-free, acid-free film. It is a dull specification that happens to be the most important line here: it is the quiet difference between a coin you have kept and a coin you have slowly ruined. The whole thing measures 245 by 270 by 55mm and retreats into its matching slipcase when closed.

It is the red that Jonah remembers. A dealer he knew kept his best Victorian pennies in an album this exact shade — not, he insisted, because it flattered them, but because he could find it in a dark room at two in the morning, which was when he did most of his thinking.
