Legendär Brass Ballpoint Pen

Most pens are designed to be lost. This one is built to be inherited.

The Legendär is a ballpoint milled from a single piece of solid brass, 13cm long and a deliberate 35 grams in the hand — enough weight that you notice you are writing rather than merely scribbling. It arrives polished, under a temporary finish that wears away over a few days of use, after which the brass begins to do the interesting thing brass does: it darkens, warms, and takes a patina shaped entirely by your own hands. A simple twist extends the refill (a Schmidt P900, or any Parker G2), and it comes in a plain card box.

It is the patina that wins Jonah over completely. The brass base of his desk lamp has worn bright in exactly the two places his hand has fallen on it for years, dark everywhere else — a kind of accidental portrait of every late night spent under it. He has come to prefer objects that record their use rather than hide it. This pen will do the same: in a year it will look like nobody else's, because nobody else holds a pen quite the way you do.

Brass forgives nothing and remembers everything, which is rather the appeal.
