Gold Plated & Black Round Dress Cufflinks

A man can own one good shirt and still be let down by his wrists.

These are round dress cufflinks in gold plating, each with a disc of black enamel set at the centre — the sort of thing that does its work quietly, from the edge of a sleeve, and asks for no further attention.

Gold plating, black enamel, a round face. Nothing more, which is rather the point.

The black is what does it for Jonah. He claims it reminds him of a wedding in the late eighties — someone's cousin, a marquee, a band that knew four songs and played each of them twice. He insists he wore cufflinks almost exactly like these, lost one in the car park, and found it three years later in the glovebox of the Jaguar, by which time the wedding had quietly ended in other ways. Whether he was invited at all remains, like most of Jonah's evenings, unconfirmed.

What he is sure of is the black. Against a white cuff, he says, it reads as confidence rather than decoration.

These do the same. A round face, a dark centre, and just enough gold to be noticed by the right person.

Cufflinks are small. The impression is not.
